As a seasoned production professional … no, expert … there are still a few nails-on-the-chalkboard phrases that drive you crazy. “Anyone Can Do It” is one of the worst! Here are three tips to differentiate yourself from everyone else:
1. Be the expert your clients need. Focus on specialities that matter to them and let them know you’re doing so. “Anyone can do it” means your client under-values what you do, you over-value what you do, or they’ve never experienced the difference. Beware though … expert doesn’t mean arrogant.
2. Get others to validate your expertise. From testimonials to word-of-mouth referrals, nothing is more meaningful than someone else speaking highly of you.
3. Put yourself out there. Social media is an easy way to promote your expertise. You’re posting event pics anyway … add specific detail regarding challenges that were overcome or the speed of deployment. Think about what matters to your clients, not your colleagues.
Make sure your clients know you’re an expert, get others to validate it, and make sure proof of your hard work is publicly accessible.
