When the Competition Isn’t Staged

In a live cooking competition, the most important moments rarely happen in one place.

Competitors move between prep stations and ovens. Judges react in real time. Hosts shift the audience’s attention from one side of the room to the other. Every decision changes where the focus needs to be next.

For a 2026 corporate pizza competition, Encompass Event Group provided the technical design and deployment that allowed the production to move naturally with the competition. Multi-camera coverage, concert lighting and audio reinforcement, and presentation systems designed for the arena worked together so everyone stayed connected to the action as it unfolded.

Following the Action

Unlike a traditional general session, this event had no single focal point.

Attention constantly shifted between competitors, judges, cooking stations, and hosts. Missing a reaction, a presentation, or a judge’s commentary meant missing part of the story.

The visual system was designed to adapt as quickly as the competition itself. Multiple camera positions, live switching, distributed displays, and coordinated audio allowed the production team to direct the audience’s attention wherever the next important moment occurred.

When the technology is working well, the audience simply follows the event … not the production behind it.

Preparation Creates Flexibility

Live competitions don’t follow a script.

Schedules change. Conversations happen unexpectedly. Judges linger longer than planned. Competitors finish early … or not at all.

Supporting that kind of environment requires far more than reacting in the moment. It begins weeks beforehand with technical planning, system design, crew coordination, communications, and contingency planning.

Once the event begins, preparation allows the technical team to stay flexible without sacrificing reliability.

That discipline gives producers the confidence to focus on the event rather than the technology supporting it.

Supporting the Production Team

Encompass partnered with the event agency and production team as the technical production partner.

While the agency led the creative direction and client experience, our responsibility was ensuring the technical systems supported that vision from load-in through show close.

That meant coordinating the technical design, deploying integrated audio, video, lighting, communications, while also providing the technical leadership required to execute the event consistently.

Our goal is never to become the center of attention.

Despite a significant deployment, our goal is to make sure the technology never distracts from the experience the agency set out to create.

Technical Design That Supports the Event

Every event has different expectations, but our technical approach remains consistent.

We begin by understanding what the production needs to accomplish. From there, we design and deploy the technical systems that allow producers, agencies, and creative teams to focus on delivering the event … not managing technical complexity.

Whether supporting a live competition, general session, awards program, or product launch, our role stays the same:

Great technical production isn’t measured by the equipment in the room. It’s measured by how confidently producers can focus on the event, knowing the technical execution is already under control.
